Jardín I, acrylic on canvas, 20"x16", 2026

Panamá (El Valle)

The first of this new "series"—the garden series.  While the vision of the Monte series is to capture the biodiversity of Panamanian jungles through a voyeuristic lens, like slices of reality, the Jardín series, to be honest, aims to do the same.  This work is photographic in nature (see what I did there) because I feel like the purpose of it is to celebrate a real place and moment, and bring it to your home.

So I go wandering, taking the reference photos.

Before naming this one "Monte IV", I stopped for a second and thought, this doesn't read like jungle, does it... because it isn't.  I talked to my mother about it and she agreed.  It looks manufactured, because it is.  It's from a photo I took in a very lush garden.  A jungly, beautiful, garden.  My cousin got married in this garden, which is why I made this for her.

Portraiture is what I do.  This is a portrait of a humid moment in El Valle.
