Lover's Portrait, acrylic on canvas, 8.5x11in, 2018
Honduras

One of the very first paintings of the series.  Still trying to figure out different color underpaintings, I made the "mistake" of making it bright yellow...  This set me up for a really dark medium value to start with (I believe it was the olive green), and made the overall values of the painting much darker than I intended.  Then the entire process became making the painting lighter and lighter.  This painting will always be one of my favorites because of the outlandish colors and rough and dry painting and texture.  The beautiful model and pleasing cropped composition are definitely helpful, too.  I will be eternally grateful to this collector, who really gave me the confidence to start taking myself seriously again.

Painted from a photograph provided by the collector.  Painted in Cali, Colombia.
